Economic Class

One of the objectives of Canada’s immigration policy is to permit Canada to “permit Canada to pursue the maximum social, cultural and economic benefits of immigration” (IRPA, s. 3(1)(a)). Immigration under the economic classes fulfills this objective, as it brings skills and money to Canada.

The following is the list of available Economic Classes. However, Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC) can make changes or suspend any of the programs.

  • Federal skilled worker (FSW)
  • Canadian experience class (CEC)
  • Federal skilled trades (FST)
  • Start-up business class
  • Investors
  • Entrepreneurs and self-employed persons
  • Quebec skilled workers
  • Provincial nominees
  • Caring for children and caring for people with high medical needs classes
  • Immigrant Investor Venture Capital class
  • Live-in caregivers in Canada
